πŸ“Œ The Ethics of Being an Artist on Social Media
A conversation around a lot of the dilemmas we face as artists and humans on public facing platforms and unbox the idea of how self-promotion feels difficult. How do we exist in an inherently manufactured space with artistic authenticity and integrity without being just superficial in our creativity or just burning out? We will also discuss personal use versus group use since not every artist works alone and many part or will be a part of a larger collective.

Surviving The Session
One thing that often goes un-talked about in the world of music production is "bed-side-manner." How do you tell a singer they're flat without it sounding rude? How do you move past creative disagreements? What about managing the clock, or the singer's energy level? Music making is very personal to most people, and it's difficult to describe a creative vision in a way that doesn't lose at least a little in the translation. Add to that the fact that in A Cappella we regularly are working with newcomers to a studio environment, and you get a recipe for more than a few moments of frustration and a session where you didn't get to everything you'd planned. In this class we'll talk about developing your language as a producer/recording engineer. We'll talk about ways to navigate the most common pitfalls that lead to studio drudgery, and how to avoid falling into them. Finally students will leave with actionable steps for practicing the way they communicate creatively

All Ears
All Ears is a workshop developed by Anders Edenroth and Katarina Henryson. How often have we been told to "listen" when we're rehearsing without being told what that means? How often do we rehearse listening itself? In a fully interactive session, I'll provide a tool which develops trust and initiative through heightened listening. We'll be singing a simple song together (no prep needed) to challenge and expand their listening ability. This workshop can be done with all levels of singers and requires no preparation other than demanding a lot of focus. Even instructors are welcome to join this workshop!

Spectrum Singing
Of the many styles of singing, none has been more contentious to voice teachers and students than the belt voice. Often wrongly considered dangerous and risky, and rarely addressed in classical voice studios, belting is the often maligned and rarely researched sister to classical voice techniques. Spectrum Singing is Dr. Erin Hackel’s proven method of teaching singers to perform healthfully in all styles. Spectrum will show you how to use your voice in a healthful, functional way that eliminates all breaks, cracks and passagio issues. Learn to belt high with no strain or stress, and how to maximize your vocal potential.

In this class, we will be exploring how arrangers/music directors can open the door for all members to contribute their own creative ideas and arranging skills to the development of any given arrangement while still maintaining a unified sound and journey within a song. We hope people will learn that this type of organization, inclusion, and collaboration will lead to efficiency, originality, and connection to material, that these methods help build group sustainability by naturally training the next arrangers/music directors of the group, and that we will help them begin to build true collaborative mindsets, methods, and practices within a creative space, including what productive collaboration is and what it isn’t.

Circle Singing
Circle singing is a spontaneous, improvisational community-singing experience where a leader starts by improvising a line of music and teaches the parts on the spot to one part of the circle at the time. The leader then develops a second part that goes with the first and gives that part to another section of the circle. Circle Singers learn and repeat the exact part given to them and the choir can support individual solos. The group ends up singing new songs never-before-sung, wordless most of the time, fun songs, melodies, harmonies, and rhythms. Each circle is a unique experience. You will learn how to become a great circle singer as well as how to become a circle singing leader!
